KJSEA Integrated Science
Integrated Science brings biology, chemistry and physics together into a single Junior School learning area. At Grade 9 it is assessed through both theory and practical work.
The CBC approach emphasises scientific inquiry (observing, investigating, and drawing evidence-based conclusions) rather than recall alone. The learning area is organised around broad strands:
| Strand | Examples |
|---|---|
| Living things & their environment | Cells, human body systems, plants, ecosystems |
| Matter | Properties of matter, mixtures, acids and bases, changes |
| Energy | Forms of energy, electricity, magnetism, light, heat |
| Force & motion | Forces, machines, motion and their effects |
| Scientific inquiry | Observing, measuring, experimenting, recording, concluding |
How It Is Assessed
Integrated Science is examined through a theory paper together with a practical component, complemented by school-based assessment built up over Junior School. This blend rewards learners who can both explain concepts and apply them in the lab.
Revision Tips
Practise the practicals: setting up simple experiments, taking careful measurements, and recording observations in a clear format.
Learn key terms and definitions precisely, and be ready to explain the "why" behind a result, since inquiry and reasoning are central to the CBC.
Use practice questions across every strand to find weak spots early and build confidence before the assessment.
